Melissa Bonilla's artistic talent is a gift to the world of entertainment. As a Native New Yorker, Melissa was immersed in the power of song from a young age. Her grandfather, Nicasio Martinez, was an accomplished singer in Puerto Rico from the 1940s to the 1960s. The tradition of music was a bonding force of the family- a passion rooted in Latin sounds: Bolero, Cumbia, Salsa, Merengue y Música Romántica. As the youngest in her family, Melissa was inspired by multiple genres like 80's rock ballads, dance music and 90's R&B and Hip-Hop. After years partaking in chorus and misical theatre, she joined a R&B Latin Pop group, "Melete", quickly creating a buzz in the market, leading to collaborations with Sony Executive Corey Rooney.
In 2004, Melissa released a duet remake of the salsa classic "Ven Devorame Otra Vez" with salsa artist Charlie Cruz/Sony Music, produced by legendary Grammy Award winner Sergio George (Marc Anthony, La India, DLG). The song charted at #10 of the Billboard's 100 Tropical Hits chart, catapulting Melissa into the limelight with appearances on shows like "Sabado Gigante", "La Gorda y La Flaca', "Despierta America", and toured the United States opening for various headliners.
Despite facing a cancer diagnosis, putting her dreams on hold, Melissa persevered and returned to the studio, pouring her heart and soul into her music. Melissa's remarkable talents continue to be recognized. She was honored as "Artist of the Year" and performed at the 2022 National Puerto Rican Day Parade, appearing on Channel 7 Eyewitness Prime Time Media Coverage. In 2022, she collaborated with iconic DJ Frankie Cutlass for the dance release "Baby Imma Want You" featured as "Ivory". Her next release was Latin-pop record "Dime/Tell Me", a remake of Groove Theory 90's R&B hit, which aired on mainstreamed Top 40 FM Radio.
She is already making noise in 2023, lending her vocals on performances with dance legends Brenda K.
